Synopsis

"Faces of Addiction" is a poignant and deeply human documentary that delves into the ravaging impact of addiction, the healing power of art, and the unyielding strength of community. The film intimately follows the journey of Nick Reale, a talented woodworker from St. Petersburg, Florida, whose life was forever changed by the tragic loss of his brother to addiction.

Nick began carving faces in wood, each piece reflecting the multifaceted nature of addiction. He created so many wooden faces that he decided to share them with other artists, sparking a collaborative movement. This initiative blossomed into the idea of a group exhibition, bringing together 38 artists, each contributing their own stories and artistic interpretations related to addiction.

The documentary follows the preparation and realization of this group show, held at Studio@620 in St. Petersburg, FL. The exhibition not only serves as a tribute to those affected by addiction but also as a platform for raising awareness and fostering dialogue. The overwhelming response hints at the potential for the exhibition to become a national ongoing event, spreading its message of hope and healing across the country.

The Film aims to explore the broader context of drug addiction, featuring interviews with artists, addiction specialists, support group leaders, and other individuals affected by similar losses. The film highlights the stigma surrounding addiction and the often-overlooked personal stories behind the statistics. Nick's journey is interwoven with scenes of community art events in St. Petersburg, where he finds solidarity and support among fellow artists. These gatherings become a testament to the transformative power of art and the importance of a supportive community in the healing process. The documentary culminates in a powerful community exhibition, showcasing works inspired by the theme of addiction and recovery, embodying the resilience and hope that art can inspire.

"The Faces of Addiction" is a stirring tribute to the memory of Nick's brother and a compelling narrative on how creativity and community can pave the path to healing, offering viewers a profound understanding of the human side of addiction and the possibility of redemption.
